An article on the co-existence between Artificial Intelligence and mankind.

Every time I watch a Youtube video. Especially, the Youtube Gamer ones, I wonder how they make it so successful and wonder if it is the path for everybody, anybody. Because if all of us became Youtubers, would it even be i.e. any oversaturation to the point of causing the various industries to significantly suffer from the lack of ‘the human touch’? What is this new shift we are seeing when it was rumored that an expected 4 million employees in the USA are about to resign from their day jobs?

Is this ‘new shift’ significant for us to even worry? Like who is going to get me my latte at 6am in the morning before I slouch into the office?! Well, some smarty pants got it all figured out i.e. that robotic barista arm that does coffee like any human barista without the 6am complaining and the long — winded whinging, that your $200 apple earpods cannot block out. But, who really cares when the boss is deciding whether to fire the ‘full — of — complains’ barista or that robotic arm with no ‘disgruntled worker’ smile.

“Bodoh! Wanna fake simi accent?”

“Lar-teh”, “tsk — seh…!”

Duh!

(not quite sure what all these sounds are about, as in, I am not sure why I am receiving all these responses just for my American — Australian accent. Because do other people with accents receive the same ‘in — your — face’ ridicule? YES. And guess what, we could not bear going back to the favorite place of ours.)

In my view (from my 3 bedroom cubbyhole here in Asia), we are looking at the following industries to expect exponential revenue and productivity growth. They are:

  1. Biotechnology i.e. medical technology in terms of the delivery of medical procedures, medications with the use of robotics e.g. Nanopills and Nanotechnology for surgeries (“SurgiBots” — name and technology was coined by myself),
  2. Artificial Intelligence for prostheses and various manual handling uses,
  3. Artificial Intelligence for various manual labor (e.g. ship yard work)type tasks to improve safety for their human counterparts,
  4. Artificial Intelligence for military and various defense type vocations e.g. police patrol so that their human counterparts maintain their level of safety,
  5. Artificial Intelligence replacements for mundane jobs e.g. cashier, general cleaning, grocery packer, various factory line work, human transport work i.e. public and private transport drivers,
  6. Artificial Intelligence for concierge and various customer or public service type of work,
  7. The coding, programming, hacking, robotics, cybersecurity industry,
  8. The list is endless…
  9. I would like to say there is a possibility that not every body needs to lose their jobs because behind every robot, is a programmer. So, phew! Maybe?
  10. Just like the 1 voter that the whole entire Australian election depended on to at least have some Greens voted for a balanced parliament, I vote ‘Human Barista’. Because 50–50% the robot barista will not be able to decide whether to include some really uplifting coffee art in my “Lar — Teh” after seeing my exhausted and upset face.

Is there really no way humans can co-exist with artificial intelligence? I mean, amidst all the hype and the impatience to get out of positions where, you hear humans whinge all day long. If we sat back and took some deep breaths, have your favorite “Lar — Teh”, a good long stretch and in a relaxed state, we might realize that having too much artificial intelligence injected into our lives may not be such a good thing. Just saying, I know the temptation.

But, also just saying, somebody already found a way to replace me in my job. And those who hold the same position as I once held. I think to exponentially hasten this progression, it is by justifying the irrelevance of the profession.

How to do it?

Just prove that the profession does not actually earn enough money for the services that employs us and that we’re not as productive as to break even. This can be done through monthly statistics and outcome measures.

How many times have you been asked to leave the person alone just because they see no value in your professional input? And how many times did you find yourself not being able to justify your presence and role in the interdisciplinary team?

One can also prove that other professionals on the team have indeed been thinking about how to meet the gap in service provision by your profession, and have actually been meeting that gap i.e. lack in services for a holistic approach.

How many times do you have ‘meetings’ just to appear worthwhile to the organizational administrators and other members to the team?

A television program on a Thursday night, might give me more answers.
